Herbs are frequently used to help people regulate their blood sugar.

Most of long-term complications of uncontrolled diabetes – damage to eyes, kidneys, nerves, blood vessels, and other organs – is attributed to chronic elevated blood glucose levels.

People with type 2 diabetes are aware of these dangers and sometimes consider adding herbal therapy. If you are interested in using herbs, consult with your doctor before you try using herbs.

1. Aloe vera.

Although this plant is cactus-like, it is actually part of the Lily plant family. Of the 240 aloe species, only four are known to have nutritional value. Aloe gel may lower blood glucose levels, according to some preliminary research.

2. American ginseng.

Research studies indicate that ginseng might reduce blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes. This may be due to tissue insulin sensitization and/or the stimulation of insulin release.

3. Bilberry (huckleberry).

Bilberry has been used for thousands of years in Europe to treat diarrhea. This herb also contains a strong antioxidant that increases circulation in the eyes. In studies, bilberry lowered blood sugar levels in dogs.
4. Bitter melon (momordica charantia).
5. Blond psyllium (blond plantago).
6. Cinnamon bark (cassia cinnamon).
7. Devil’s claw.
8. Eleuthro (Siberian ginseng).
9. Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum).
10. Ginger (Zingiber officinale).
11. Glucomannan (Konnyaku root).
12. Gymnema sylvestre (gurmar).
13. Holy basil (hot basil).
14. Jambolan (Syzygium cumini).
15. Kudzu.
16. Panax ginseng (Asian ginseng).
17. Prickly Pear Cactus (Nopal).
18. Red sandalwood (Pterocarpus marsupium).
19. Stevia (sweet herb).
20. Turmeric.
